Twenty eight year old Shia LaBeouf was attending a performance of Cabaret at New York’s Studio 54 when he was arrested for being disruptive in the theatre. He was formally charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment.
According to other audience members in attendance, LaBeouf became disruptive during the first act of the show. He allegedly began yelling at the actors on stage and refused to leave the theatre.
Police were called in to escort LaBeouf. He allegedly yelled at the officer, “F— you. This is f—ing bull—-. Do you know my life? Do you know who the f— I am? Do you know who I am?”
When he arrived at the precinct, LaBeouf spat in the direction of the officer and cursed at him, according to the police file.
Two women who were in the audience of the show told WABC that they thought LaBeouf’s shenanigans were an act.
“He was brilliant,” one said. “I thought he was working on a role or something.”
The women also said that LaBeouf seemed to be dressed for the role, staggering around in a torn shirt with a cigarette and mixing with the crowd prior to the show.
Some have speculated that LaBeouf may have been under the influence of drugs during this incident, but one source close to LaBeouf claims this is utterly false.
“There were definitely no drugs involved,” the source told E! “Drinking and Shia do not mix well. But he definitely wasn’t on any kind of drugs.”
LaBeouf had reportedly been spotted at a nearby Mexican restaurant Iguana Club prior to the Cabaret performance, drinking double margaritas alone and watching the World Cup. A woman who spotted him at the club told E! that had was given the ticket to Cabaret by a friend.
The Transformers actor was released on his recognizance and will appear for his next court date on July 24. The judge warned him of the repercussions if he were to miss his court date.
TMZ is also reporting that the same day LaBeouf was thrown out of the Broadway show, he was involved in a bizarre altercation with a homeless man on the streets over a hat.
According to an eyewitness for TMZ, LaBeouf had confronted a homeless guy on the street. The witness says it appeared as if the man had LaBeouf’s hat and LaBeouf was trying to get it back.
The witness says LaBeouf was acting as if he knew the man but he also seemed “whacked out” and was making no sense. LaBeouf was reportedly saying, “It’s me, Shia.”
It is certainly possible that the entire day may have been an act. In February, LaBeouf began a performance art exhibit in Los Angeles. In #IAMSORRY, he appears with a paper bag over his head while apologizing for a list of transgressions.
LaBeouf is set to co-star alongside Brad Pitt in Fury. He has appeared in three Transformers films and is best known for his role in the Disney series Even Stevens.
