While many artists are outright refusing to perform in North Carolina due to its controversial ‘Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act’ (aka HB2) which requires people to use the designated bathroom of the sex stated on their birth certificate. Selena Gomez is taking an alternate strategic route to show her support for the LGBTQ community that this bill unfairly targets.
Selena Gomez will still play her North Carolina Revival tour stop tonight in Charlotte. In order to clap back at the so called “bathroom bill” the singer is ensuring that the concert venue has gender neutral facilities and will generously donate a portion of the concert’s proceeds to the Equality North Carolina organization to help stop HB2 in its tracks.
“I am fortunate to have grown up in a home where I learned from an early age that everyone should be treated equally,” the superstar star said in a statement to Billboard. “I went back and forth on whether I should cancel my concert in North Carolina and ultimately I think what is right for me is to move forward with my show and donate a portion of the proceeds to Equality North Carolina and their effort to defeat this act of discrimination.”
BOOM. Take that. We applaud Selena for keeping the tour date and doing something worthwhile to help the LGBTQ community.
