The young singer/actress decided that she had out grown her parents as her managers, and therefore fired them. There are multiple rumors floating around as the true reason she let them go as her managers, but one thing is for sure, she may be upsetting more than one person with her decision.

In 2007, Selena Gomez received her big break into stardom with her starring role in the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place. Since her time with Disney, the 21-year-old star has appeared in over a dozen movies and released multiple albums. Her mother and stepfather, Mandy and Brian Teefey, acted as her managers during her rise to the top. Selena recently dumped both professionally…

There are conflicting stories what actually prompted Selena to fire her parents. Speculation surrounds whether or not Brian and Mandy were shocked bytheir dismissal or saw it was coming. Two possible reasons behind the management switch is: 1) Gomez believes her career has become too much for her parents to appropriately handle. 2) She wants to separate her work life from her family life completely. We imagine her parents interjected parental advice, such as stay away from Justin Bieber, into a lot of their decisions.

Selena’s sudden announcement came just after she visited Justin Bieber in Miami. The family is claiming no friction exists between them, even though they don’t agree with Selena’s decision to hire a new manager. Rumor has it that Gomez has her eyes set on Katy Perry’s manager, Bradford Cobb. Regardless of the reasons for the major change, maybe it is a good idea for Selena to have a management team outside of her family. (Seriously, just look at Kris Jenner’s relationship with her children.)

Maybe this split will help advance Selena’s career and remove the stress from her family situation.
