Teresa Giudice officially began her federal prison sentence today.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey starlet Teresa Giudice, 42, left her plush Montville Township, New Jersey mansion for the slammer. Giudice opted to surrender herself to authorities 7 hours earlier than required. Maybe hoping to get ‘brownie points’ from the justice system or save a little face under the cover of early morning darkness.

The reality star is currently locked up in a minimum-security prison located in Danbury, Connecticut where she will serve out her 15-month sentence. (Yes, the facility that inspired the hit show, Orange is the New Black. Can’t you see Teresa morphing into a weird cross between Red and Morello while locked up?) Teresa and her husband Joe where charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and a wide array of financial fraud charges. They also got into serious trouble for hiding major assets from bankruptcy creditors and submitting false loan applications.

Once Teresa completes her sentence, Joe will be heading to prison for 41 months and might actually get booted back to his native Italy. Somehow he never became an American citizen. (Ugh…?) At least one parent will be able to actively watch over their four young daughters, Gia, Gabriela, Milania, and Audriana.

What a mess. After all of this, will they learn to stop living way outside of their means? Interesting note, Teresa and Joe’s eldest daughter Gia, 13, is working to become a pop star with her all-girl group 3KT. Yes, this video was funded by the girls’ parents after a failed Kickstarter campaign. How are they still affording the lavish clothing, vacations, and girl group music videos?!
