The pop culture movie phenomenon “Mean Girls” marks it’s 10th anniversary this year. Since April 2004, “Mean Girls” has grossed more than 129 million dollars. The satirical teen movie was written by Tina Fey and directed by Mark Waters. “Mean Girls” was based on the non-fiction book “Queen Bees and Wannabes” by Rosalind Wiseman. On February 5th, some of it’s cast members gathered in New York City to celebrate.
“Mean Girls” was the break out movie for many of its cast members including Amanda Seyfried, Rachel McAdams, and Lindsay Lohan. Originally Rachel McAdams was cast for the role of Cady Heron. Even more interestingly Lohan was hired to play Regina George. As it turns out, Lohan ended up in the role of Cady Heron, McAdams portrayed Regina George, and Seyfried played ditzy Karen Smith.
Ever wonder what happened to the high school cast members?
Jonathan Bennett (Aaron Samuels) played small parts on “Veronica Mars” and “Cheaper By the Dozen 2”. His career also includes roles in “Bachelor Party Vegas” and “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder: Freshman Year”. Recently, he’s had roles in “Slightly Single in L.A.” and “Anything Is Possible”. His movie career may not have taken off as might have been expected, but he’s still a fine piece of eye candy.
Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) has appeared in “Cloverfield”, “Hot Tub Time Machine”, and “True Blood”. She was also in James Franco’s film “127 Hours”. On television, she’s been the voice of Debbie on “American Dad” for the past three years and is Ruxin’s sister in “The League.” She is also in the hit series, “Masters of Sex.” Her career is solid and just keeps getting better!
Daniel Franzese (Damien) has appeared many movies including small roles in “War of the Worlds” and “Burn Notice”. He has also appeared in a recurring role on the web series “Foodies”.
Rajiv Surendra (Kevin Gnapoor) has modeled, is an artist, and attended the University of Toronto studying art history and classics.
Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners) starred in “Party of Five”, appeared in “Ghost Whisperer”, and has done many voiceovers including Eliza Thornberry from “The Wild Thornberrys” and Spider Man’s Gwen Stacy. She has also starred with her “Mean Girls” co-star Jonathan Bennett in “Slightly Single in L.A.” and “Anything Is Possible”. Chabert has also been a cover girl for the magazine “Maxim” twice. (2007 & 2013)
Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith) is one very versatile actress. She has acted in romantic comedies, musicals, and thriller movies. “Les Miserables”, “Dear John”, “Jennifer’s Body” and “Lovelace” are just a few examples of her work.
Rachel McAdams (Regina George) experienced much movie success after her breakout role in “Mean Girls”. She has starred in “The Notebook” opposite Ryan Gosling, “Wedding Crashers”, and “The Time Traveler’s Wife” just to name a few of the movies to her credit. McAdams has captured our hearts with her talent and beauty.
Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron) hit it big before her role in “Mean Girls”. She was a child actress who starred in movies such a “Freaky Friday” and “Parent Trap”. After “Mean Girls”, Lohan hasn’t had a much movie success. Well, actually her life derailed with family issues, car crashes, and her public battle with drugs and alcohol. Over the years, she’s had 2 DUI incidents and 3 visits to rehab. Hoping for a movie comeback, she filmed “Liz and Dick” in 2012. The movie is based on the life of Elizabeth Taylor, but unfortunately the comeback hasn’t happened, yet.
Oh, in case you’re wondering “fetch” never happened. Maybe it will in “Mean Girls 3” ?
