In an on-air interview with Australia’s “The Kyle and Jackie O Show,” Lorde, 17, did not let co-host Kyle Sandilands trick her into answering any of his offensive questions. Sandilands tried his best to get Lorde to publicly state her sexuality. He rudely attempted to see if she was in a romantic relationship with Taylor Swift.
Lorde struck back and asked if he had an issue with lesbians. Sandilands became more graphic about his love for lesbians and continued to push the issue: “Are you gonna confirm now that you’re in a lesbian relationship with her … how good with that be?”
Lorde tactfully ended the discussion on her sexuality: “Don’t even try it. It’s not working.”
The radio host then pushed with another comment, “Don’t go too overboard explaining the friendship then.”
Lorde smartly responded, “I won’t, believe me.”
Way to go, Lorde. I’m impressed with her ability to shut down such an asinine line of questioning. Sandilands should be ashamed of himself. I get that he is a “shock jock,” but can he not come up with anything remotely creative or original?! Going the “Lorde and Taylor are secret lesbian lovers” route was really cheap and just plain pitiful. Plus she’s underage, why the heck is a grown man asking her these personal details?
Lorde is a very bright and gifted artist, there’s so much more to her than just her love life. In case you were still wondering, Lorde is dating New Zealand photographer James Lowe, 24.
