Johnny Depp struggled on stage as he presented an award to Mike Myers during the recent Hollywood Film Awards.

“That’s the weirdest microphone I’ve ever seen in my life,” Johnny Depp slurred into the regular old microphone this past Friday night (Nov.14) at the Hollywood Film Awards. Depp was on stage to present the documentary award to Mike Myers for his film Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.

Attempting to focus on the autocue, the star, who was wearing dark glasses, slurring his words and was distinctly unsteady on his feet, said: “For decades, Shep Gordon has been one of the most beloved and respected talent managers in the music industry. He is also currently the star of the documentary Supermensch – because he is a mensch – and I have been very, very, er … lucky to have him in my life.”

“He’s someone I consider a great friend, somebody … uh, yeah, uh … incredibly, uh … loyal, loyal friend. Um. And so … you have to watch the film. Yeah, there you go.”

After asking “What’s that say?” Depp appeared to swear and was blanked out again.

“I’m not very good at this kind of thing,” continued Depp, before switching into drunken pirate mode and apparently dropped a serious of expletives that producers were forced to blank out.

Gordon was pictured during the speech. Like the rest of a bemused audience, he was laughing.

Depp carried out the presentation. Later, Myers referred to Depp’s “performance” as “very rock ‘n’ roll” according to Variety.

The Hollywood Film Awards debuted on television for the first time ever with a star-studded list of Hollywood heavyweights expected to be in attendance.

Prizes were presented in categories, including director, blockbuster of the year, screenwriter, acting ensemble and comedy film. Some prizes were announced ahead of Friday’s ceremony at the Hollywood Palladium.

While the Hollywood Film Awards may be new on the scene of awards shows, Johnny Depp has ensured that their reputation as a party is firmly in place.
