Ian Somerhalder Becomes a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador

According to his own Tweets, the dashing Ian Somerhalder is a newly named U.N. Goodwill Ambassador.

The United Nations is committed to making our world a better place for all of its populace by focusing on the elimination of poverty, fighting against the spread of HIV/AIDS, promoting environmental issues, and protecting human rights.  Goodwill Ambassadors use their fame to bring attention to these issues and promote international cooperation.
Recently, Ian Somerhalder of the television series, Vampire Diaries, announced on Twitter that he was bestowed the honor of U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. Somerhalder has been involved with environmental issues and animal rights for years. He founded the IS Foundation (Ian Somerhalder Foundation) to advocate for the environment and animal rights.  With his newly appointed assignment as a goodwill ambassador, he will increased his focus to the international level promoting the United Nation’s goals and spreading the message of international cooperation and human rights.
Somerhalder joins the ranks of past U.N. Goodwill Ambassadors including David Beckham, Katy Perry, Serena Williams, Orlando Bloom, and numerous others. Congratulations Ian!  And thank you for using your fame for the good of all.
