It’s Hollywood awards season and the movie buzz must go on until the Academy Awards in 2015. So of course, now would be the time to debut a brand new awards show on the scene, which NBC is doing with the People Magazine Awards tonight (Dec 18).
The peacock network describes it as “a star-studded event special and snapshot of the year in pop culture.”
The new ceremony, hosted by Nick Cannon, is a co-production of NBC and Dick Clark Productions and promises performances by pretty much everyone from the network’s vocal competition hit The Voice — Maroon 5 (with frontman Adam Levine), Gwen Stefani, Pharrell Williams, and 5 Seconds of Summer.
Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Hart, Kate Hudson, Michael Keaton, and Jennifer Lopez are also set to make appearances at this brand new ceremony.
Other big names include Jon Hamm, Billy Eichner, Jeff Bridges, Chloe Grace Moretz, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, John Krasinski, Elisabeth Moss, Karlie Kloss, Lisa Kudrow and Ryan Phillippe.
The event will also honor Nora Sandigo, who will receive the “Hero of the Year Award”.
Sandigo is being recognized for her work as founder and executive director of American Fraternity Inc., a Miami-based non-profit that helps immigrants and their families.
Diane Guerrero from Orange is the New Black, whose immigrant parents were deported when the actress was 14, will present Sandigo with her award.
The cover of the year – voted on by fans on People.com and twitter – will be revealed during the show.
