It’s been 10 years since Friends aired its last episode, and we’ve all been searching for a way to fill the hold in our lives ever since. A Twitter user named Tom Charlie Thompson, an avid Friends fan, created a photoshopped poster imagining what a reunion show poster would look like.
Once he posted it to Twitter, it quickly went viral, angering fans once they realized that they had been duped and that there would not be any kind of revival of the beloved show.
The poster says “Friends… the one after the 10 year break” and features all six cast members along with the “2014.” The rumor quickly grew to claim that the episode would air on Thanksgiving.
Thompson recently issued an apologize to fans through the Metro newspaper, insisting he meant no harm by the poster.
“I’m very sorry for any confusion caused,” he said. “I have to say that the poster wasn’t created with the intention to upset, anger or fool anyone. It wasn’t even supposed to be seen by many people. I was expecting a few ‘likes’ on Facebook by some of my friends who are also fans of the show.”
“The original had my Twitter name on it,” he added. “Therefore, nobody should have been confused as to whether it might or not be real. The fact it was cropped and re-uploaded by somebody else is what caused the confusion, in my opinion. An official promotional poster would not have had anybody’s Twitter name stuck to the bottom of it.”
Despite the apology, the rumor seemed to only be gaining ground on Twitter and Facebook as excited fans continued to share the poster.
However, Friends creator Marta Kauffman has insisted and stressed that there is no reunion or sequel of any kind in the works.
Could star Jennifer Aniston have other plans for the show? It’s been rumored that Aniston has petitioned Warner Bros executive Peter Roth with the idea of creating a Broadway musical version of the show.
The show would feature a new crop of young actors and Aniston has even suggested that Glee actress and singer Lea Michele would be the perfect Rachel.
“Jen thinks the whole idea is hilarious and too fun to pass up, and she jokingly refers to it as her ‘billion dollar idea,’” a source recently told Radar about the rumors.
Sigh, stop toying with true Friends fans. We all miss our TV BFF group: Rachel Green, Monica Geller, Phoebe Buffay, Joey Tribbiani, Chandler Bing and Ross Geller.
