Beyoncé’s quiet wedding to Jay Z in 2008 was nearly perfect— except for the wedding gown. The superstar’s mother, Tina Knowles, revealed this surprising fact during her interview on NBC’s Today show. Watch the clip below.
Knowles, a fashion designer, made her daughter’s strapless wedding dress, which can be spotted in the 2011 music video for “I Was Here.” Knowles told the Today show hosts that Beyoncé revealed to her, after the wedding ceremony, that she wasn’t too fond of the gown. “She was so sweet to let me do that. She came back later one day and she said, ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’m going to let her pick out her own dress.’” (Ever tactful, that Beyoncé.) Tina continued, “Maybe she wasn’t so excited about it at the time, but she’s a sweetheart.”
This proves that the mother-daughter relationship can be a complex matter for anyone— even Beyoncé!
