The Best and Worst Dressed of Award Season 2014

The month of January can easily be called "Awards Show Month." Below are my picks for hits and misses of the 2014 red carpet season. Of course there is still the Oscars, which always has its own fashion wins and fails.

The Hits:

Colbie Caillat stunned in a long, flowy red gown at the Grammy Awards. I love the mid-body open slit with floral accents and the stunning red color. It’s not very often that you see a high neck dress that doesn’t give off an older, uptight vibe. This dress is simply gorgeous.

Matthew McConaughey’s wife, Camila Alves, graced the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards’ red carpet in this beautiful Donna Karan Atelier canary yellow gown. The sweetheart cut has always been a favorite of mine, but I am loving this updated version with the sharper edges. The texture of the dress look simply luxurious.

This Zac Posen dress’ beauty simply leaves me speechless, which is definitely a rare occurrence. Sofia Vergara has the perfect skin tone and shape for this dress. I love the matte appearance of the material and the heavy pleating that gives this dress such a beautiful shape.

Now this is how you incorporate a cape into a red carpet look. The silhouette of the dress hugs her body perfectly. I love how the cape goes all the way to the ground with a small train. Again, red is simply a gorgeous color that adds the perfect mix of elegance and sultriness to a look.

The Misses:

This dress seriously had to come from a vintage store or her grandmother’s closet. Hopefully it did not smell like moth balls. There are many questionable elements of this dress, but what is going on with the hi-low hem that drags the ground? This dress is all wrong, especially the mismatched textures of slick, shiny with lace.

Fantasia completely missed the fashion mark even for the Grammy Awards with this odd sheer black dress. What is going on with the red lanyard looking piece? Is that a necklace or a part of the dress? The pattern of the lace seems odd and the cap sleeves just aren’t doing any justice for this look. This is an obvious fashion miss.

This fashion miss needs no description, just check out the picture! The colors! No under shirt! The pants could be cute with right top…maybe. Her hair makes the look even worse, it seems like a pile of Ramen noodles were glued to the top of her head.

This dress is seriously a hot mess. At least Beyonce has beautiful curves, because this dress leaves nothing to the imagination. It looks as though she sprayed her self with glue and then rolled on a sheet of white lace. The placement of the lace is completely random. Plus, no one is a fan of white pantyhose, it makes the most beautiful skin seem dead.

The Maybes:

Katy Perry’s style is always so hard analyze. It is hard to know if she is playing a part or if she’s trying to be fashionable with her own twist. This gown could be a hit or miss. I love how the fabric is light and flowly; the music notes add a fun yet fashionable personal touch. This look would be a hit if her hair had a softer, more done-up style. At least her hair is a natural shade with no bright colors.

Kacey Musgraves graced the Grammy red carpet in a dreamy pink tulle gown. Some may think this dress looks like a lampshade, but I love the layers, the light pink color, and hint of shimmer. I do not however like that you can see her giant tattoo through the dress. It just really pulls the eyes away from the dreaminess of the dress.
