Angelina Jolie Pens Moving Piece on Her Recent Health Choices

So happy that Angelina Jolie has used her celebrity and broad reach to hopefully get others thinking about making proactive health decisions.

Angelina Jolie, 39, continues to be such a brave inspiration. After losing so many female family members to cancer, Jolie is opting to take additional steps to ensure she stays cancer-free for her six children and husband Brad Pitt— even if it means experiencing early menopause.

“Two years ago I wrote about my choice to have a preventive double mastectomy. A simple blood had revealed that I carried a mutation in the BRCA1 gene. It gave me an estimated 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer. I lost my mother, grandmother and aunt to cancer.
