Angelina Jolie hits the mark with her portrayal of Maleficent in Walt Disney Picture's movie "Maleficent".

In the movie Maleficent, Angelina Jolie dons the horns, blood red lips, and freakishly glowing eyes to play one of Disney’s classic evil characters.  The original Disney movie Sleeping Beauty was filmed in 1959. Jolie brings new life, and a new perspective to the character in her role as Maleficent.  According to Jolie, she’s was drawn to the character.  She says, “Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite.  I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her.  And I wanted to know more about her.”

Jolie did learn more about Maleficent, and so will you.  Apparently, she wasn’t always the evil villain she portrayed in the original movie of Sleeping Beauty. According to the film Maleficent, she was once pure at heart as she was beautiful. She had a perfect fairy tale life until an invading army threatened her serene kingdom. With dangerous foes waging war on her peaceful realm, Maleficent became an ardent defender.  And through a twist of fate, she was betrayed causing her pure heart to turn stone cold.  The betrayal fuels her to seek revenge.  Maleficent engages in an epic encounter with the invading army.  Which ultimately leads her to place a curse on the King’s infant daughter, Aurora.

Aurora is played by Elle Fanning, and a younger version is played by Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.  Sharlto Copley plays Stefan.  The three pixie fairies are portrayed by Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton, and Lesley Manville.

Maleficent, is Robert Stromberg’s directing debut.  The Academy Award winning production designer is famous for his creations in Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.  This film is destined to be a visual feast.  Walt Disney Pictures plans to release the movie in May, 2014.
