Prince Harry lends support by helping to organize the Invictus Games to be held September 10 - 14 at London's Olympic Park.
Prince Harry is committed to the success of the Invictus Games scheduled to be held September 10 -14 at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Having served his country in the British Army, becoming an Apache helicopter pilot, and being deployed to Afghanistan for 5 months, Prince Harry is a passionate supporter of injured military members. The Prince states, “These guys are a credit to the country so this gives them a chance to come out and inspire others around them.”
Harry admits “stealing” the idea from America’s Wounded Warriors, he states, “Americans have had the Warrior Games now for the last four-and-a-half years.” After attending the Colorado Games in 2013 with a team of 30 service members, he thought it was a wonderful idea and wanted to bring it to the U.K.
Invictus means “unconquered”. The Prince hopes the games will encourage wounded military members to overcome their injuries through rehabilitation. Injured service members from 14 countries will be participating in events such as cycling, wheelchair basketball, rugby, swimming, sitting volleyball, indoor rowing, and archery. Using sports to encourage the rehabilitation of service members can be an important stepping stone for helping them return to the civilian world. Prince Harry will continue to support the Invictus Games as long as it’s useful and needed.
You may also recall Prince Harry recently trekking to the South Pole with a group of injured veterans to raise awareness for the organization Walking with the Wounded. They reached the South Pole on Dec. 13th after traveling a grueling 200 miles across the Antarctic.
You’ve got to love his commitment and passionate support for his fellow service men and women. Good on you, Prince Harry!!
