Miley Cyrus’ New Ink is Out of This World & Causing a Stir [Picture]

Miley Cyrus is now rocking a planetary tattoo thanks to tattoo artist Lauren Winzer. The small piece is located on the inside of the singer’s forearm. Right now the public is giving Cyrus a hard time for calling the planet “Jupiter.” In her defense, all four outer planets in our solar system have rings. We just think of Saturn as being the ringed planet due to common depictions.  So this tat could be Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or even Neptune. The bluish tinge makes me think of Uranus or Neptune— but Cyrus can call it whatever she wants.

The initial social media commenters and the press immediately jumped in to point out that Miley should have called the planet Saturn and not Jupiter.  Astronomy experts have noted that Miley is not necessarily wrong, as Jupiter does have rings (they are just not as visible as the rings depicted in Miely’s tattoo).

Here is a NASA photo of Jupiter on the left and Saturn on the right that illustrates what sparked the tattoo planet debate.

One thing is certain…Miley can do what she wants and call her Tattoo whatever she wants.  This debate is very reminiscent of the epic blue dress-gold dress debate that erupted over the web last year. Team blue.
