Met Gala: Hit or Miss?!?!

Each year, Met Gala attendees stretch the theme and current fashion trends to the limit. Checkout some of the more extreme fashions of the annual fundraiser

Shailene Woodley definitely went too far with this dress. There are too many patterns and textures in this Rodarte dress. The top portion is too fuzzy; it looks like she has a chinchilla wrapped around her arms.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen wore long, black vintage Chanel dresses. The silhouette of the dresses truly fit the theme of a structured ballgown, but the thick black fabric makes their overall look drab and lifeless.

Beyoncé and Jay Z definitely brought their famous alluring style to the red carpet. I am just disappointed in the dark style that Beyonce chose to go with. She could have definitively turned this dark Givenchy gown into a more glamorous look, had she worn her hair down and  gone with a lighter hued lipstick.

Gisele Bündchen’s overall look was definitely glamorous, and with Tom Brady on her arm who could resist staring? I am however not a fan of the see-through waves scattered throughout her Balenciaga gown. We have already seen most of her skin on the Victoria Secret runway; we don’t need to see it on the red carpet.

Kristen Dunst’s Rodarte dress has a beautiful silhouette and the mix of fabrics is definitely alluring, yet edgy. The dress would be a definite hit if there wasn’t a big Death Star on the legs, however it is rather artsy therefore putting this look in my “maybe” category.

Katie Holmes’ mustard yellow Marchesa gown missed the best dress mark by more than a few points. The worst part of the ensemble is how the folds of the gown are too random and deep, therefore making them seem more like wrinkles. The other disappointing element of this dress is the color, mustard yellow in my opinion is best suited for the likes of sweater cardigans. Katie’s messy waves definitely don’t help this look.

In my opinion, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley definitely missed the mark with this leopard print Balmain number. It is definitely eye-catching, but would have fit in better at the 2013 Met Gala, whose theme was punk. She looks like she should be on a film set as a warrior princess and not walking down a red carpet.

Gabrielle Union is honestly killing it on the red carpet in this unique Prada gown. I am obsessed with this dress. The sharp edges and feathers make it edgy, but the shiny mirrors and intricate detailing of the bodice definitely add glamour. This look just seems out of place among all the long, beautiful ballgowns.
