Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Land Vogue Cover, Internet Hates It

After a long wait, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West cover Vogue!

“Their Fashionable Life and Surreal Times #WORLDSMOSTTALKEDABOUTCOUPLE” reads the headline along with the photo of Kardashian in a flowing white bridal gown with fiance West’s arms wrapped around her.

Vogue is often referred to as the “fashion bible” and the photo was shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz. 9-month-old daughter North West also makes a rare appearance too.

West is only the fifth man to ever appear on the cover of the magazine and the first in two years.

Kardashian has been yearning for the coveted cover photo for years, despite recent snubs from legendary editor Anna Wintour. Wintour has been purported to “loathe” the reality star and family and Kardashian was rumored to be have been banned from the star-studded Met Gala.

West has campaigned on his fiance’s behalf, however, for months, telling Ryan Seacrest in October 2013 “There’s no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue right now. She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. She’s got Barbara Walters calling her like every day. And collectively, we’re the most influential with clothing.”

Kardashian was reportedly eyeing international versions of Vogue instead, and the couple appeared on the cover of French magazine L’Officiel Hommes in a controversial steamy photo in February 2013.

“This is such a dream come true!!! Thank you @VogueMagazine for this cover! O M GGGGGG!!! I can’t even breath!” Kardashian wrote on Instagram along with a photo of the cover. (See she’s so excited, she lost oxygen flow to her brain. BREATHE, Kimmy. BREATHE!)

“#TRILL Thank you @voguemagazine,” West tweeted.

Perhaps in anticipation of the coming controversy, Wintour used her editor’s letter in the April issue to discuss the decision of featuring the duo on the cover.

“Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it,” she wrote.

As for the rumors that West had lobbied for his fiance, Wintour says these are entire false.

“As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancee on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort,” she wrote. “The gossip might better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”

Twitter, however, was not so sure about Wintour’s decision. Many took to social media to voice their disapproval with it, including other celebrities and bloggers. Even the Muppets chimed in…

Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted “Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???”

Blogger Bryanboy wrote “Twenty four years of loyalty to American Vogue and then this.”

Nikki Finke, entertainment journalist, also wrote: “I’m loving the big backlash aimed at Anna Wintour for putting Kim Kardashian on Vogue cover. Issue should come with barf bag.”

While Kardashian was silent on the backlash, her bestie Jonathan Cheban took a jab at Gellar for her comments, tweeting “Do u matter?”

Supermodel Naomi Campbell throws in a little shade too… That laugh needs to be bottled and sold. It’s epic.
