Despite Fears, Jennifer Lawrence is Now A Pop Star Too

Jennifer Lawrence sings her way to #29 on the Top 40 Chart in the U.K. with "The Hanging Tree" from the movie "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1".

Jennifer Lawrence has many endearing qualities.  Her quick-wit, down-to-earth personality, and quirky sense of humor make her well loved by her fans.  Earlier this month, while appearing on the David Letterman, she confessed her deep-rooted fear of singing in public. Yet, another reason to love this girl!

She shared with Letterman, “I do not like singing in front of other people.  It’s like my biggest fear.”  She light-heartedly described a Christmas program from her childhood, when at 8 years old she sang “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas”.  She belted out the song with her growly off-key voice causing Letterman to crack up.  From the tender age of eight, Jennifer has been traumatized by singing in public.  This fear resurfaced when asked to sing in the movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.

Director Francis Lawrence asked Jennifer to sing “The Hanging Tree” for the movie.  In a recent interview with Vulture, he says, “I knew she didn’t love the idea of singing, but I didn’t realize how nervous she was until when we started the first take, and she was in tears.  Not totally broken down, but she was unhappy.”  He described her singing voice as being much like her speaking voice; it has a raspy quality.  It may not be a stellar vocal performance, but that’s exactly what the movie needed from her.  Lawrence states, “It shouldn’t sound like a professional.  It should sound like a real girl singing.”

Recently, the BBC reported “The Hanging Tree” has reached the Top 40 Chart, debuting at #29 in the United Kingdom.  Congratulations to Jennifer Lawrence for conquering her fear of singing in public and for making the Top 40 Chart in the U.K.!!!
