Peaches Geldof died April 7th from an apparent heroin overdose. The 25-year-old daughter of Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates leaves behind her husband and two young sons.
It’s heartbreaking when a young person dies of such a preventable cause. On Monday, April 7th, 25-year-old Peaches Geldof was pronounced dead at her home in Kent, England. Her body was found by her husband, Thomas Cohen, slumped on a bed in a spare bedroom. Initially, her death was reported as “non-suspicious” and a “sudden unexplained” death according to police.
New findings have provided more information confirming heroin played a part in her death. DCI Paul Fotheringham confirmed the drug “contributed” to her death. The investigation claimed Peaches died after taking an apparently lethal amount of heroin while at home alone with her youngest son, Phaedra. Fortunately, 11-month-old Phaedra was found unharmed within the home. No drug paraphernalia was found at the scene, leaving many to suspect the home was cleared before the arrival of authorities. Kent police declined any further comment on the details of the investigation. After a 10 minute hearing, the case was adjourned until full investigation and is expected to start on July 23rd.
Who was Peaches Geldof? She was a model, journalist, and TV personality. She was also a wife and mother. But most notably she was the second daughter of Sir Bob Geldof and the late Paula Yates.
Robert “Bob” Geldof is an Irish singer/songwriter, author, and activist. He rose to fame in the late 1970’s as the lead singer of the Irish rock band “The Boomtown Rats”. In his later years, he has become better known for his activism against poverty in Africa. He founded “Band-Aid” with Midge Ure to help raise funds to relieve famine victims in Ethiopia. Then later “Live Aid” and “Live 8” concerts. He was awarded an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II and received recognition for the “Man of Peace” award that honors people who have made “an outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace”.
Peaches’ mother, Paula Yates, was a long-time groupie-turned-girlfriend, then wife of Bob Geldof. She was a rock journalist and then appeared on the music program, “The Tube” from 1982-1987. Yates died in 2000 at the age of 41 of an accidental heroin overdose while home alone with her youngest daughter. Peaches had said during recent interviews that she was deeply impacted by her mother’s untimely death and absolutely nothing would come between her and raising her sons. Her statements make her death even more of a tragedy since she met the exact same fate as her mother.
