Lisa Kudrow, Teresa Guidice, George Lopez, and Leonardo DiCaprio are all facing legal issues. Katherine Heigl is suffering from money issues.
Lisa Kudrow’s run in with the legal system has been going on since 2008 when her ex-manager filed a lawsuit against her for nonpayment of 5% of the royalty money she was making on the rerun syndication of Friends. Scott Howard filed the nonpayment lawsuit against Kudrow in 2008, but the judge ruled in her favor so she did not have to pay him a dime. Howard filed an appeal and the courts finally ruled in his favor.
The court ruled that Kudrow must pay Howard a total of $1.6 million for the money owed to him according to their original contract. One can only imagine how much Kudrow has earned off the syndication of Friends if $1.6 is only 5% of what she has earned. Hopefully Kudrow hasn’t spent all of it.
Speaking of money troubles, Katherine Heigl stated that in the past few years she hasn’t been making that much money. What does this mean for the Grey’s Anatomy star? Well the movie she is currently starring in “Jenny’s Wedding” has run out of money in post-production. The film has started a fund raising effort online, but is coming up short of the $150,000 goal. They need to reach this goal by March 28th in order to finish the film, but with less than 30 days to go the fund has raised less than $33,000.
With Heigl claiming that she doesn’t have much money to spare, she is essentially saying she won’t be donating any money to the film. One can only wonder: if this film cannot raise the money needed to produce it, will it turn a profit?
George Lopez has found himself in trouble with police after having too much fun in a Canadian casino. At the Caesars Windsor Hotel and Casino in Canada, Lopez decided to take a nap on the casino floor on Thursday, February 27th. Rumor has it, he needed to nap right then and there because he had imbibed in too many alcoholic beverages.
Surprisingly no charges were filed against Lopez. The police simply arrested him and took him to the drunk tank to sober up. After sobering up the comedian was released and held his Friday performance as scheduled.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Teresa and Joe Giudice both pleaded guilty to money fraud charges on Tuesday, March 4th. The two are scheduled to appear back in court for sentencing on July 8th. Teresa is hoping for probation, while Joe will more than likely land in jail. If Teresa goes to jail she will be sent to the same institution as Orange is the New Black’s writer Piper Kerman, the Federal Correction Institute in Danbury, Connecticut. Ironic!
Joe is facing a jail time of approximately 3 years, depending on what the judge deems fair. Although he is not an American citizen, his lawyer is hoping he won’t be deported. Joe was brought to the United States by his parents when he was a year old. His parents and brothers have been naturalized and because he married an American citizen he could have easily became nationalized himself.
Their fate in now in the judge’s hands.
Leonardo DiCaprio is facing a lawsuit for his part in the production of the movie Out of the Furnace. The movie is about family and social struggles of two brothers who live in the Ramapough area of New Jersey. Eight members of the Ramapough tribe from the same area, are suing DiCaprio and others involved in the making of the film for representing their people in a negative way.
Although many movies portray regional people in a derogatory way, in Out of the Furnace a very popular last name among the Ramapough people was used. They claim this has brought other people within the community to mistreat them; therefore, they are suing primarily for emotional distress. The film actually calls the Ramapough people: “inbred mountain folk from Jersey.”
