BREAKING: Joan Rivers Dead at 81-Years-Old

Comedy legend and 'Fashion Police' staple, Joan Rivers, is dead.

Joan Rivers passed away today at 1:17 PM in New York City. The comedy legend went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing while undergoing a standard vocal cord surgery on August 28th. Rivers was promptly rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she was placed in a medically induced coma. Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, remained fairly private about her mother’s condition but did confirm her death in a public statement.

Here is the message Melissa posted to the Joan Rivers Facebook Page:

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.

Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.

My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

We will miss your sharp wit and special brand of humor, Joan. Rest in peace.

To honor her memory, let’s remember some of her best lines…

“I succeeded by saying what everyone else is thinking.”

“Life is very tough. If you don’t laugh, it’s tough.”

“I think anyone who’s perfectly happy isn’t particularly funny.”

“I was smart enough to go through any door that opened.”

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is God’s gift, that’s why we call it the present.”
