Angelina Jolie is Appointed the Honorary title of Dame!!

Angelina Jolie was appointed the honor of Dame Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George on Friday, October 10th.

On October 10th, with family in tow, Angelina Jolie was appointed the honorary title of Dame by Queen Elizabeth II.  The title of dame is the female equivalent of an honorary knighthood.  Jolie was presented the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George during a 20 minute private audience with  the Queen at Buckingham Palace.  Although the affair was serious business, it has been reported the overall feeling of the event was warm and family-oriented.  Jolie was accompanied into the Palace’s 1844 Room by husband, Brad Pitt and their 6 children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox.

In June, Buckingham Palace officials confirmed Jolie would be appointed the honorary title for her contributions to the British foreign policy objective to end sexual violence in conflict torn countries.  Jolie founded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) in the United Kingdom in 2012.  She has also served as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for over a decade, and was promoted to Special Envoy for the United Nations.  Recently, she co-chaired a global summit to end sexual violence throughout the world.

Jolie states, “To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to.”  Jolie can use the letters DCMG following her name, but she will not be allowed to call herself Dame Angelina since she isn’t a British citizen.

Congratulations Angelina!!
